Reasons Why the Knicks Won
Jalen Brunson helped spark the comeback early in the third quarter, knocking down back-to-back buckets to cut the deficit to 70–63 and shift momentum toward New York during the rally. The Knicks’ offense was sharp overall, hitting 17 threes on 42.5% shooting from deep while moving the ball extremely well with 37 assists. Four Knicks scored 20+ points in the win: OG Anunoby, Karl-Anthony Towns, Jordan Clarkson, and Jalen Brunson.
Jordan Clarkson dominated his former team, shooting 10/15 from the field and finishing with 27 points, 5 rebounds including 4 offensive boards, and 3 assists while posting a +19 plus-minus. Brunson also recovered from a rough start where he went 1/8 in the first half, finishing with 28 points, 4 rebounds, and 8 assists to help lead the comeback.
Mitchell Robinson continued to be a major second-chance weapon. He now ranks 4th in the NBA in offensive rebounds with 207 in 926 minutes, and his rebounding helped create key extra possessions during the rally.
Defensively, the Knicks had mixed results. Karl-Anthony Towns allowed 5/13 shooting with 0 threes, Mitchell Robinson allowed 2/6 with 0 threes, and Jordan Clarkson allowed 5/15 with 2 threes. Landry Shamet allowed 7/11 with 2 threes, Jalen Brunson allowed 7/9 with 2 threes, Mikal Bridges allowed 6/11 with 4 threes, and OG Anunoby allowed 3/6 with 2 threes.
Utah targeted Brunson throughout the game offensively and no player shot under 50% when defended by him. Landry Shamet held Brice Sensabaugh to 1/4 shooting but allowed Keyonte George to go 3/4 in just 3:58 of matchup time. Karl-Anthony Towns held Keyonte George to 1/4 shooting with 0 threes despite Utah trying to involve him in actions. Mikal Bridges struggled defending the perimeter as Brice Sensabaugh shot 3/4 from three and Ace Bailey went 2/2 from deep when guarded by him. OG Anunoby also allowed Sensabaugh to go 2/2 from three.
After a rough weekend in Los Angeles, the Knicks responded the right way with a strong comeback win and snapped their two-game losing streak. New York showed resilience battling back from an 18-point deficit and finding their rhythm offensively when it mattered most. If they continue to move the ball and control the glass the way they did in this one, they’ll be in a good position moving forward. Peace and blessings, and thank you for supporting another State article.
